Dear reader,
Moving to another country changes things in a person. I, for example, became someone who enjoys summers after living in Sweden. It’s a simple thing to do when temperatures are around 23℃ instead of 37.
So, during summer vacation, I decided to explore the Gothenburg archipelago with my Pentax 67 (not the most hike friendly camera, I know). I focused on visiting the southern islands, which are lovely, car-free and easily reachable by ferry. There, I spent time swimming, sunbathing, eating cherries direct from trees, but mainly walking the islands, observing and photographing them. Sometimes with Douglas, but mostly on my own, which was also a very nice experience.
But even as some things change, many stay the same. I, for example, continue not being very sunny inside, as you can see reflected in these black and white photos. Using Lomography’s Berlin Kino 400 film, here are the least warm captures of very pleasant summer days.
Inside, the weather is always 10℃.
All photos were taken, developed, and scanned by me. I made mistakes while developing the photos taken in Styrsö. When editing the scans, I found myself adding way more contrast to the photos, but backed out and decided to honor the film’s low contrast characteristics. But maybe Berlin Kino is not for me.
Arquipélago sul is the Portuguese translation to south archipelago, or södra skärgård in Swedish. The images in this first edition were taken in the islands of Styrsö, Vrångö and Brännö – my favorite! I visited all the islands and therefore can vouch for it!
On Arquipélago Sul Part 2, I’ll share the color photographs from the islands. I’m excited to show you the results of shooting a roll of Agfacolor Ultra 50 that expired in 1997.
See you soon! (I hope - the color photos are still work in progress)
